"I don't know," Katherine said, stumbling over the words. "She was gone, she came back. I don't know." The desperation in her voice was evident. Death and loss had been a companion during her childhood. On the island it was ever-present. But that it not mean that it did not get to her when it happened again and when the moment of another person she would not talk to again was far too close. Pleading eyes glanced up at Hope. She was no healer and she was far out of her comfort zone.
