Really, he hated seeing her like this; a mess of emotions, a situation that he couldn't even begin to fix for her right now. And he hated knowing that he was the cause - or at least, his behaviour was the cause. It was an automatic reaction when he gently reached out to put a hand on top of hers. "Well, then you tell me that just means you've been promoted to Queen," he joked softly.
His hand pulled back again to check the time. "Just coming up for nine," he told her. Time felt like it meant nothing in the darkness, although he tried to keep a rough schedule for Charlie. They'd talked right past his bedtime, but he wouldn't be surprised if he'd fallen asleep watching the DVD. "You must be tired."
