The renewed declaration of love softened everything, and it went a long way to removing the hint of darkness from his expression. She loved him, she wouldn't leave him - what more could he possibly want?
"I really don't want to hurt you. I'll honestly try not to," he told her, not wanting it to seem like he'd just deliberately mess her around with the understanding that he could tell her the truth and have it be okay. He would at least try. "But yeah, if I fuck up, I'll be honest. Even if it hurts," he assured her. It was an odd sort of promise, but at least it was one he could keep.
"I never want to lose you," he told her, arms holding her a little closer. "We can do it," he agreed, finally giving her a proper smile again.
