Those gigantic blue orbs of eyes stared back up at her from the bundle of blankets. They were so innocent and wide, bright and curious that it made her breath falter. The Winter Soldier had to loosen her grip as the baby stared back up at her, not judging or demanding she change. Just taking comfort in human presence, or as near to human as she was likely to get. There was a memory stuck in the back of The Winter Soldier's head that would not come unstuck, something familiar and warm. Rogers had said that she had two children but if that was true, then she feared for their states.
She didn't even notice the water shutting off until there were the mother's footsteps beyond the door. Getting caught now meant giving up the baby all too soon and going back to the quiet place to dwell on her mind and her past. Making a snap choice, she grabbed the baby's rattle from the crib and ran out the door with her carefully situated in the crook of her metal arm.
