Her jaw ached enough to rouse her from the unconscious state she was in; the cold was biting enough around her face to remind her of the cryo-chamber and being frozen again and again and again. For the better part of a century, the Winter Soldier had been in cycles of programming and cryo until her mind was theirs to mould. The last thing she could remember was shooting her target through the heart; Nicholas Fury, one of the heads of SHIELD, would be dying if not already dead. Her shots never missed and that had been a particularly good one. She was proud of it and would wear it with pride.
Hydra had put her back in the cryo after that, knowing she was too dangerous to ever contain properly. And now... there was sand beneath her bare, blunt fingertips? The kevlar mask she wore kept her quiet and warm but everything else was cold. It was snowing? The Winter Soldier sprang to her feet and did a check; no injuries, weapons accounted for, but no communication devices. No radio, no wire, not even a clumsy cell phone.
Eyes narrowing as she trudged through the snow-doused sand, there was something she recognised. A symbol she had been programmed to respond to and despise in equal measure: Avengers Tower. Wherever she was, Hydra would be nearby and it was likely that they were there. She slid into the darkness, a shadow caught in the wind.
