Hemingway knew that he had missed Abi, but it was only really apparent to him exactly how much he'd missed her once she was back. It felt like everything slotting back into place, like his head could fit back into reality again.

Things were getting back to normal. There were cuddles from Charlie, sleepy, salty cuddles and mumbles about the boat and the fish in the water as he fought against sleep. They'd got back to the apartment, and he'd made them toast, and they'd acted as if it was all perfectly normal. And now Charlie was all bathed and pink-cheeked as he finally got back to his own bed again.

Hemingway lay in their own bed, listening to the occasional snuffly breath coming through the monitor and the water of the shower as Abi washed the ocean air from her skin and he felt terribly content and relaxed. Life on the island was quite the rollercoaster, and Abi was like stepping onto solid ground again.
