Preparations always took longer than expected. It was a rule. A simple and easy rule. Part of the Christmas decorations had found their way back into the pub. With a few extras. Instead of typical red Christmas miniature old-timers hung down from the green leaves of the big Christmas tree that dominated the main area of the pub. Rudolf wore black sunglasses and Santa Claus a baseball cap. A sledge hung over the big table, only to be steered by a skeleton. Christmas was all right but he wouldn’t take it without a healthy dose of humour. All in all, Mitchell felt good. This was exactly what he had ever wanted. A big family to spent Christmas and everything else with. People who knew what he was and who still accepted him. He had everything he ever wanted. He even had a real family, even though it was likely that they still came from another universe but in a way they were still his family. And here it was time for the family feast of the year and it wasn’t just him. So many friends, so many people who cared for him and who he cared for. And Annie. The one he would spent all of eternity with. The vampire had created a big table by pushing the smaller ones together. He had banned the stills into one of the galleries and the alcohol and other beverages were lined up on the bar. Today he wouldn’t be the bartender. Somehow he had even found himself in a Christmas hat and a ‘Santa, I can explain’-shirt. The cooking team was finished with their preparations and a few extra tables stood in the corner and formed a buffet. A shield that hung over the tables informed them of their purpose: ‘For food, presents and dirty socks’. |
