Who: Ned the Pie Maker What: Making Pies (and possibly getting caught) Where: Sookie's Cookies and Pies When: Late night Friday Status: OPEN Rating: Probably low
Ned was alone in the bakery, working much later than the others did and anyone ever really came to visit so he could hide the bits of his piemaking that might get him a little too much attention. He'd carried the box of rotted fruit-peaches and berries tonight-from his apartment where he'd been keeping it all in one of the extra bedrooms. He'd just finished setting up a few pots full of flowers off to one side of the room and pulled his crust from where he had it chilling in one of the large refrigerators.
This was familiar, late night, hands covered in flour as he rolled the dough, only other sounds in the bakery being the soft hum of the oven and Digby's shuffling as he dreamed in his bed outside the kitchen. This place had thrown him for a loop but pies didn't change, pies were his constant, from childhood to the Pie Hole to here. They held him together.
Once he had the dough rolled and set in to his pans he wiped his hands on a towel hanging from his apron strings and turned to the box. He started taking the fruit out one piece at a time, watching as the moldy, rotten fruit came back to life, going bright and juicy and heavy with one of the potted flowers going limp and dead with each one. He had to replace the flowers every time he baked but it was worth it to have such ripe fruit in a place that could only grow with the seasons. He took his time, letting each piece of fruit go back to it's glory in his hand before setting it aside to move to the next one, mostly unaware of the rest of the building or the fact that the counter he'd decided to work on was visible to anyone who walked in.
