Smiling in response, Edith slipped her hand into his and squeezed tightly. "At least I have the advantage of being a New Yorker in that sense. I imagine you are used to much more quiet scenes than the bustle of this township?" she asked.
Edith let him take his food from the lady behind the counter and wondered what he had ordered. She had eaten just toast and coffee, not knowing what some of the confections were.
"None of my things have arrived as my friend said they would. I don't suppose my luggage will have turned up at your lovely Allerdale?" she asked, her brain suddenly fizzing with possibilities.
