Who: Claire and Dean -then eventually, Thomas
What: Cons need to be run. Mysteries need to be solved.
Where: Their apartment at first, then the new mansion
When: After this.
Status: Closed, on going
Rating: TBD

Sighing, but feeling marginally better after constructively resolving the irritating conversation with her brother, Claire had tossed her phone on the bed and checked the closet like Rory suggested. Just like he promised, there was a set of late Victorian clothes- his and hers- hanging between a plethora of button overshirts and plaid flannel. On the hanger, the ivory silk maternity dress looked more like a fancy tablecloth, but it fit well enough, she supposed.

Mostly she gathered that by the look on Dean's face when he came back into the bedroom.

"This is a new one for me," she said with breath, her hand smoothing the silk over her swollen belly. Three months to go... Claire would've been lying to herself if she said she was surprised another shitstorm fell on them before she could give birth. Jack had been active as hell since it all started days ago- not great on her attempts at rest, but it was comforting to feel the boy move just the same. "It's actually more comfortable than I thought..."

Dean couldn't keep the stupid look off of his face as she walked back into the room. He was just finishing the buttons on the white shirt, as she walked in. Had it been since Mary Ellen's wedding since he'd seen her in a dress? His tongue traced over his lower lip as he looked her over.

"It's very... lacy." And that wasn't a bad thing at all. He tucked the tails of the shirt into his pants. Making sure it was slick and smooth over his stomach. Going by the picture he'd pulled up on his phone, that had been the style. High and tight. The damned tie was going to choke him, but it wasn't on yet.

Dean didn't fight the wickedness of his grin. "So, underneath period accurate?"

Lacy- yes, it was definitely lacy. And ruffly. Something she would've pegged more as a wedding dress than an 'afternoon frock'- or whatever Google said it was. Claire looked back down at herself in the nearby mirror, adjusting the sash at the empire waist above her stomach, and tying it in a bow behind her back.

But she couldn't help but snort at his comment. Her eyes met his in the reflection of the mirror, reflecting a small smile that matched his own. Her tone was dry. "If you mean those ruffly MC Hammer pants, then hell no." Satisfied with where the dress hung on her frame, she started on her hair, tossing it back with both hands to twist into a soft, romantic bun.

"But all those buttons..." He finished slipping the modest cuff links into each cuff, as he walked to stand behind her. Why not tease? Leaning in he traced a kiss along the curve of her neck. He only had the vest, jacket and tie to worry about. More buttons.

Dean met her eyes in the reflection. "Does that mean nothing?" He drawled. The silk definitely felt nice as his finger tips slipped over the back of the dress, just below the bow she'd just tied. The bow that he was very tempted to pluck free. Funny what a rest and food did to him.

With the warm tingle of his lips on her throat, Claire's hum of appreciation coupled with the slight outward tilt of her head, natural as breathing. Like a big cat leaning to a touch.

"Which sounds better to you," she hummed back with the length of her spine comfortably nestled against his front, her brows lifted in a softly suggestive challenge. His roaming fingers were certainly a welcome change from the tension of the last few days. "Underwear made of yards of fabric and a hundred buttons- or no underwear at all?"

While he hadn't said it, Claire agreed with him- nothing wrong with a little teasing before they took this on. This was comfortable... normal... it relaxed her more than probably anything else could.

"So how are we playing this anyway..."

He didn't mind all the lace too much, he just nuzzled it out of the way. A grin turned against her skin. "Part of me wants to say buttons, just so I could yank them a part and send little bitty buttons scattering. But no underwear at all has it's advantages too." Dean teased.

His fingers traced over her hip. He was really liking the feel of the silk. They followed along to the sides of her swollen belly. A warm little smile playing over his lips at the soft pat he'd felt.

"I don't know. I don't mind the servant angle. Might be a good excuse to explore other parts of the house."

"I'll find something with a lot of buttons for you to Hulk-out on later," Claire promised, smiling faintly against his hair. The way he moved his hands over her was distracting in the best way possible. She was a low maintenance kind of girl, but Claire had always secretly liked wearing silk, specifically for how it felt under someone else's touch.

"I think we should keep it vague as possible- play it by ear," she suggested. Speaking of ears, she removed all the piercings in hers and placed them on the vanity, meeting his eyes again in the process. "See who he likes better."

His grin turned boyish, and he planted a loud kiss against her jaw. She was so easy. So low maintenance... He felt practically spoiled. The fit together without it feeling forced. It felt good.

"Okay, that sounds like a plan." Dean was glad she had faith in him if no one else did. He ease back from her so that he could slip the vest and jacket on. "Should I go with the cane or leave it?" He was sure he looked butler-y without it.

"Cane- definitely," she said with a sideways smile sent his way, still feeling the little touch of cool moisture where his lips had been. "It suits you."

Claire replaced her seven titanium, silver, and bone industrial piercings with two simple raindrop pearls. "We should keep our names-" she added, watching him in the mirror. "Since we're stuck in this fishbowl..." Conning someone was one thing. Conning the new neighbor without the option to change real estate was another.

He finished tucking the buttons into their holes. Waggling his eyebrows, he snagged the knob topped cane. "What about the hat?" He really wanted to wear the top hat, but if she thought it was too much he'd skip it.

Dean wasn't going to admit to anyone, but he liked dressing up. Pretending to be someone else. Even in their line of work it made it a little more enjoyable. "Think he'll be pissed later when he finds out we aren't from the turn of his century?"

"Go for it- good place to hide a knife," Claire told him, finally turning from the mirror. On her way to the closet to wiggle her feet into the shoes that came with the dress, she caught his eyes and pointed at the inside felt of the hat. "Slice the lining- tucks right in there."

Claire had a knack for finding places to hide sharp things.

"We just don't bring it up in the first place. The more vague the better- and if he asks specifically about it- we play the comfort-zone. We know how jarring it is to wind up on the island outside of everything you know- blah blah blah..." The point was to gain the dude's trust as fast as possible. At least enough to get their jobs done.

"I was thinking it would be a good place to hide the EMF." After all he did have his pockets. And the slimline holster he had under the dress shirt. He wasn't going anywhere unarmed.

Dean pursed his lips in thought. As he slit a hole in the liner of the hat, and slid the slimmest EMF he had in side. It wouldn't be too well hidden if the guy took a long look, but it would be out of sight. "What about your angel sword? Think it would fit in here?" He pulled the cane apart, exposing the hidden, rather useless, rapier. And he knew that blade probably killed just about anything she'd take a swipe at. Or at least he hoped it would.

Hiding the EMF in his hat was also a good idea, and she showed him her approval with a little impressed expression. Course, that meant he'd have to separate from the owner of the house to get any readings, which meant she'd have to keep the guy's attention.

"It has a tendency to fit anywhere it needs to," she told him, moving to her side of the bed where she kept the ancient, powerful weapon. She held out her free hand for the cane, offering him a small crooked smile in the process.

Dean handed over the bottom half of the cane. Setting the other blade to the side, against the wall. Sure it wasn't completely useless, but for what they needed it was. He was pretty sure it was sharp.

Sitting on the bed he pushed his feet into the shined shoes. He watched her as he bent over to tie them. Did she know how beautiful she was? And the things she did to his insides. It was hard not to just say 'fuck it' and drag her over. But they had a job to do. "I just thought that was an angel thing."

Claire flashed him a wink as he handed her the cane sheath, the angel sword whirling once out of sheer habit before she drove it home. By any perspective, the blade looked too wide to fit in the cane, especially at the hilt- but fit it did. Easily. It was something she'd discovered as an eighteen year old trying to sneak it practically everywhere she went.

She looked back at him, passing the weapon across the distance between them when she caught that look. It pulled at her chest hard, even stopped her breath. There was absolutely nothing close to catching him looking at her like that. It was all she ever needed.

"Maybe," she started, bouncing her brows high. "But it hasn't had an angel to listen to for a long time."

He knew she caught him looking at her like that. As if he could just lick her from the tip of her toes to the roots of her hair. And take his time doing it. Hell he saw the reaction it caused, and his grin might have been a little smug. But only a little.

"Maybe it just likes your voice better." Dean weighted the cane in his hand, and it didn't feel any different than it had with the Rapier inside instead. He leaned against it slightly, and was glad when it held him.

"It does listen to me," Claire admitted with a subtle, smug grin of her own. "It might not listen to you, though- so if you need it and it sticks in that cane, just toss it to me." She was only half-joking. She never let anyone touch that sword, except the things that died on the end of it- and Dean knew that. It was her Baby.

"You look damn good, by the way. We ready?"

Dean wasn't going to make the mistake of trying to take it from her again. Not now that he trusted her. The only person he might have trusted more was Mary Ellen. And he was sure that they were on the same level.

He cleared his throat and squared his shoulders, a little grin hadn't left his lips yet. He held his arm out for her. "Why thank you. I'm ready when you are m'lady." He tried to class up the way he spoke. Though he didn't try any lame accents. He was pretty sure he'd screw one of those up, and end up offending someone, all at once.

He turned around startled at the knock on the door. At first, he had thought it a mannerism of the house. One of its many quirks that spooked you and kept you awake at night. But it wasn't. It was real knock. He was not sure if that was better or worse.

The door creaked open, revealing a couple about his age. "Uhm, good evening." His voice held restrain and hesitation but there was nothing to ground it on but his own paranoid mind.

The mansion close up was something else, even more Disney Gothic than she'd thought viewing it from a distance. Claire had been in her share of horror-movie type situations, but this had a surreality all it's own. She was definitely chalking this up as one of her top-ten weird experiences. The other nine? Also all on this damn island.

But the face that greeted the man inside was one of warm, if slightly exasperated gratitude for finally coming to the door- because the longer they were out here, the more exposed they were to the masses of dead things trying to tear them down.

"Hello-!" Claire's grin was bright as the pregnant glow in her cheeks. "Goodness- we were starting to think no one actually lived here. My name is Claire... this is Dean," she offered, giving the other hunter's arm an affectionate squeeze, as her other hand rested gently on the swell of her belly. "You're new... very new to this place. We know that can be a bit jarring..."

Dean tipped his hat when Claire introduced him. It was hard not to be tense, he could almost feel the ghosts around them. Oddly enough Ellen, and Jo weren't attacking. It was almost as if they were watching over the pair. Which was one of the oddest things he'd ever experienced.

But he did his best not to let on that he knew they were there. That he knew more circled like they were injured deer. And he was minimally armed. He let Claire do the talking. He didn't doubt she had more tact than he did.
