Who: Izzy Sully and Open
Where: The Diner
What: Open scene!
When: Sunday afternoon
Rating: TBD, likely low
Open: yeppers
Status: Threaded scene, in progress.

Izzy turned off the welding torch and pushed up her mask before inspecting her handiwork. The weld looked solid enough, and it was the last one she'd needed to finish before calling the frame for her latest contraption complete. Once it finished cooling she could start installing components inside the metal framework. Nodding in satisfaction, she pulled off her gloves and took the mask the rest of the way off her head.

She'd put as much time in her workshop as she could lately, trying to finish her latest project before being pregnant got in the way. Many times she'd bring the girls with her and put them in a playpen, but not when she was welding. The risk of something happening and one of them getting burned somehow was just something she wasn't prepared to tolerate. Izzy was giving herself until the end of the year to get the physical work done with the project, the coding and spellcasting she could do even when big as a whale but once she started getting awkward and clumsy she wasn't going to risk hurting herself or her babies. Given how her abdomen was already starting to puff out a little and buttoning her jeans getting to be a chore she was pretty sure it was twins again, which meant she had weeks, not months.

The growling of her stomach roused her from her thoughts and she glanced up at the clock on the wall of the old service station she'd converted into her workshop. It was already past one and she hadn't had hardly anything to eat that morning, her stomach not wanting to keep anything down. Now she was starving.

"All right, all right. I get it." She said aloud. "I'll eat."

She finished stripping off her welding gear and put everything back in its proper place before grabbing her jacket and stepping outside. It was brisk and sunny, just cold enough to let a person know it was fall and winter was on it's way but not so cold as to freeze.

The diner was just around the block and Izzy made her way there in no time at all.

Lacey was even happier than usual. Daniel had come back and now that she was convinced he wouldn't vanish again, she had returned to the diner. She had even caught herself humming 'capital cash', a song from her hometown, as she wrote down the lunch special of the day - sliders, a choice of beef sliders with cheddar and remoulade, lamb sliders with harissa and feta, crab cake sliders with apple slaw or turkey sliders with stuffing and cranberry sauce. The last option would hopefully use up the rest of her Thanksgiving leftovers. Of course, she would make almost anything that was requested and she did for a few early lunch customers.

After they left, she grabbed a cloth and wiped down some of the tables, hoping for more people. She glanced towards the door when it opened. "Hi Izzy. How are you?" She made a point to be able to greet as many people by first name as possible. It really was almost like being at home again. With Daniel back in her life, it might even be better. "C'mon in and take a seat."

"Hi Lacey," Izzy smiled at the other woman and did as requested. She'd heard about Daniel's return, and while she didn't know Lacey all that well knew she had to be thrilled that the archaeologist had found his way back to the island.

"I'm doing fine. I was working in the shop and didn't realize the time until my stomach decided it was time to eat."

"Working on something old or inventing something new?" Lacey asked. The Sullys were so smart and the island technology was usually much more advanced that what she knew back home. "Either way, you came to the right place! Can I start you off with something to drink?"

"More like trying to reinvent something from back home." Izzy responded smiling at the other woman's interest. "I've decided to try and grow industrial power crystals that can be used in bigger technomagic devices. It's something to keep my skills sharp and remind myself that I can do more than parent."

She nodded at the question. "Yes, please, a large water."

"I'm impressed you have time to do more than parent." Lacey commented. "It sounds wonderful, though I must admit I don't know much about technomagic, or anything about it really."

Lacey nodded. "Sparkling or still? Would you like ice?"

"I have a great husband and several adults around that help look after the girls, it gives me occasional free time to work on things like this, and still with ice please." Izzy knew she was extremely lucky in that regard and tried to make sure she didn't take advantage too often.

"That's great that you have all that help. Families weren't usually so large back in my home town." Lacey said with a smile. "I'll be right back." She disappeared into the kitchen to wash her hands and get the ice water.

"They don't normally have a half dozen grown children come back in time either." Izzy pointed out before Lacey disappeared. "They're essentially babysitting themselves." It had freaked her out to no end when Rachel and Sarah first arrived, but now after a few years she cherished every one of them and couldn't imagine life without them on the island.

Lacey returned and set the glass of water down. "I think your grown kids will have an advantage when they babysit themselves. They must know all their own interests and what calms them down." She certainly could have use that kind of knowledge back home with Tanner; maybe that kid would have thrown fewer toy cars at her head.

"Well Rachel and Sarah have kids of their own now, so I can't ask them to help out anymore. It wouldn't be right." Izzy tried not to think about the fact that she was already a grandmother before the first children she'd actually given birth to in this timeline were out of diapers. It screwed with her head too much.

"But there's still JR, Juliet, Tommy and Sookie. I don't want to miss too much but I'm glad I've got them so I can have some adult time."

"Goodness. Grandchildren already. The island does keep things interesting." Lacey said with a nod. "I think I've met all of them at one point or another, at least all the adults. You have a beautiful family."

"Thanks Lacy." Izzy smiled at the compliment. "I guess I can take credit since they're mine genetically, but considering most of them haven't even been born yet I can't claim credit for anything more than that. The island certainly does keep things 'interesting' but it does screw with your head sometimes."

"It does do that." Lacey agreed. She seen more loss and crises on the island than she ever could have imagined back home. And yet she was happy. The island had given her Daniel and a new way of looking at life too. "But for me right now, the good is far outweighing the bad."

"Yes, I'd seen Daniel was back. Congratulations." She smiled at the other woman, then was reminded of the reason she'd come to the diner in the first place by the growling of her stomach. "All right already!" Izzy exclaimed, glancing down at her middle.

"Thank you." Lacey instantly felt as if she had been slacking off. "Oh, sorry. Do you know what you'd like to order?"

"Not your fault," Izzy waved off the apology. "I should have said something and I was enjoying a little adult conversation."

She pondered for a moment, then nodded. "Can I get a grilled ham and cheese and a bowl of tomato soup?"

"Absolutely." Lacey replied. That was classic comfort food, easy enough to make. "Coming right up. Do you have a preference for type of cheese?"

"Cheddar and Swiss." Izzy didn't even hesitate. It wasn't a combination she'd normally have but for some reason it sounded really good today. "Thank you Lacey."
