The air was so fresh. She had come here for training. To keep her mind focused. She did not like the sea. Jealousy, that was what it symbolized for her. That treacherous part of herself that had held her back so many times. You needed to long for what you could become and not for what others were. Others did not matter.
Bare-footed she walked over the pier, taking in the sound she had hated for such a long time. It filled with an aggressive calm. That was the past, this was now.
The past was gone.
Good.
Even Lucy was only a sprinkle that was left in her memories. A ghost. A dream. No reality any longer. For a moment the thought scared her. They had been the things she had once cared about. All the people she had held dear. And she was letting go of them. The person she had once been was dying. She had been doing so for quite a while. Katherine looked back at her and could barely respect that girl any longer. No control, no focus, just small and emotional.
Then Katherine looked at the sea and jumped. "Holy mother fucking crap shit," she cursed, a very clear reminder of who she had once been. Full of curses and swear words. But the human beast in the water had deserved them. A mer. How curious. She blinked at him. With nice abs too. Nothing to complain about there. She cocked up an eyebrow.
"Hello, Mr. Sneaky," she purred while she forced the shock to leave her system. She had her pulse back a few seconds later.
