Up they went. There was a hallway paved with a beautiful, lush carpet. Luna had redecorated and spared no detail. Even the windows she had changed, altered, and now they reflected stained glass similar to the designs from home.
"Over the years as ponies grew and populated I began to grow upset...I noticed they reveled in the day, they danced and played and came out to enjoy the sunshine....Ponies did not do this at night. At night ponies dream. Only the spare few came out and I grew impatient. I felt unloved by our kingdom. Disrespected. A darkness grew in my heart." Luna pressed a hand to her chest but it was lightly fisted as if she could remember the way her hoof would have felt.
They began to climb spiraling stairs up and up and up to the tower where her bedroom lay.
"That seed spread and grew within me. One evening as the full moon rose I had enough. I called upon the power of the moon and all of my inner strength in my rage and I become somepony else. I was not Luna. Celestia called me as such but I even denounced my own name. I had become Nightmare Moon." Even as the princess spoke there was a ripple in her appearance and all in a wash she was not the petite, sweet, kind looking human Katherine met. She was tall, shapely, and exuded power in appearance alone. Her hair was even longer, glittering with navy blue and plums and violet strands, it waft behind her, floating, and her wings were even more silky than before. When she looked to Katherine there was an obvious appearance of scorn in her gaze, not at Kat of course.
"Nightmare Moon--I--and my sister Celestia fought. She begged of me to stop, to calm down, but there was no hope. I overpowered her quickly and took off into the sky. Celestia followed and we continued our battle. Eventually, she found no other way to defeat me than with the Elements of Harmony." The princess--the night's queen--turned her right hand over and upon it another illusion appeared, a dancing array of six gemstones in vibrant color. "The Elements of Harmony were our most powerful focus of magic. With them Celestia banished me to the moon. I was exiled for one thousand years. And then my imprisonment was over. The stars aligned just so and I was free....and upon my return to Equestria I began my attack to rule once more, to bring eternal darkness."
Luna let her hand drop and the elements disappeared. They had made it to the top of the tower and entered the princess's room.
