"Thanks," she said with a sweet and genuine smile, actually touched by the gesture. "It's nice of you to offer; getting a two year old out ready for groceries takes a while when he throws temper tantrums over putting the trains down." she chuckled and set the tray of food down in the living room.
Charlie was happily lying on his stomach, pushing trains around the track and making up nonsense stories with the figurines. "Picnic!" he said, seeing the tray of food on the floor.
Abi felt a stab of empathy, having heard about his family back home. She couldn't ever imagine how much pain this must be causing him.
