Peggy wasn't going to be pulled into his distraction technique of flirting with her. She was the best at her game, as tired as she was still. She could see how his smile was forced, how his eyes were tight and shoulders tense. His body language screamed at her to leave him alone but Peg was just as stubborn as her daughter.
"Only when you're being an arse, James Barnes," she said, turning and sitting on the top railing. "Now, I just spent an entire night and a half a day with a one year old who screamed blue murder when she couldn't see me. My working theory is that she had a nightmare about me not being there and got scared so forgive me if my patience is a little thin right now..." she looked at him, "Stop beating yourself up because I'm not pregnant yet. It's nobody's fault and you're not letting anyone down. Not your fault, not my fault, nobody's fault."
