Who: Sunila and kid Jake (with mentions of Jason.)
Where: Washington DC
Warnings: None.
When: Wednesday
Open: Possibly. Ask first.

Sunila had been so excited over the arrival of 'baby her', that she hadn't given a thought to her own birthday passing by. Her parents were understandably busy. And she wasn't sure if she had even told anyone else on the island when her birthday was. When her brother took out for a walk and stopped by the room of doors, she was completely surprised when he handed her an envelope and told her it was a belated birthday gift. She opened it quickly, expecting a card. Instead, she found pamphlets on some pretty cool sounding places in DC. Rock wall climbing! Laser tag! Go Carts! She glanced at the pamphlets and turned them over in her hand. "Jay, what?" She grinned. "Are we going to do all this stuff? Did Mom and Dad say it's okay?"

"Yup" Jason told her. "They said it's fine. We'll even have lunch and you can pick what we have."

"This is all so cool!" Sunila wrapped her arms around her brother in a tight hug. "Thank you!"

Jason chuckled and hugged her back gently. "Okay, okay. Let go. You'll miss the next surprise." He told her, glancing at the street to see if Jake was on his way. It was almost the time they agreed to meet.

Jake made his way to the doors as quickly as he could, his backpack bouncing up and down as he ran. He was carrying some of the presents he'd got for Sunila in the backpack - a necklace that Sookie had helped him pick out, with little stones the same color as her lightsaber blade, a bag of the peanut butter cup cookies he'd made her before (there were more back at the house, unless Tommy didn't read the note on the tub he'd stored them in), a little box with a Lego version of Sunila inside, and a birthday card that contained an IOU note since giant Lego sets didn't really travel about all that well.

He spotted Sunila and Jason up ahead as he turned the corner, and let himself slow down to a jog, finally walking up to stand behind Sunila. "Hi," he said, "did I keep you waiting?"

Sunila grinned widely when she saw Jake. "Are you coming too? That's so cool! You didn't keep us waiting. Jason just told me where we're going! It's going to be awesome! Look!" She held out the brochures. "There's rock climbing walls and go karts and laser tag. And Jason said we can have lunch too. Do you like pizza?"

He said a quick hello to Jason before nodding at Sunila's first question, slipping his backpack down from his shoulders as she talked to him and showed him the brochures. "That all looks great! And yeah, pizza's good."

He had been going to hand over her presents before they left, but then he wondered if it would be better to wait until they were having lunch. "I've got some of your presents here. Do you want them now or do we have somewhere to be?" The second part was addressed to Jason, since Jake really didn't want them to be late if he'd booked them into one of the things in the brochures.

"Some of my presents? I get more than one? Cool!" Sunila replied excitedly and then remembered to say "Thank you."

"We don't have to hurry." Jason replied. He had picked the middle of the week, hoping most kids on the other side of the door would be in school and they'd avoid crowds. "But you might want to give them to her on the other side of the door. It opens to an empty club; we could sit a table."

Jake nodded, holding his backpack by the loop at the top, and moved round so that he was standing right beside Sunila. And if that had his free hand brushing against hers, well, these things happened. Just like his fingers trying to tangle a little bit with hers as well...

"The table thing sounds good," he said and waited for Jason to lead the way.

Jason nodded and walked through the door first. He took a look around to make sure it was safe and then held the door open for the kids. He could see that Sunila had moved even closer to Jake and was holding Jake's hand, but he pretended not to notice.

Sunila squeezed Jake's hand gently when they were through the door and gestured to an empty table with her free hand. "Let's sit there."

Jake did as he was bid, only letting go of her hand when they reached the table. He waited until Sunila was sitting before he took a seat beside her, lifting his backpack onto his lap as he did so. Unzipping his backpack, he lifted out the couple of parcels, the bag of cookies and the card, and set them on the table in front of her. "Happy birthday," he told her with a smile, "I hope you like them."

"I'll love them." Sunila declared, even before she looked at the gifts. She knew she would love them because they were from Jake. She looked at the card first. "I get a big lego set? Cool! You can help me build it." She saw the little lego her and smiled. "Is this me? It's got to be me! It's perfect!"

She opened the bag next and grinned. "And more of those awesome cookies!" She turned her attention away from Jake and the gifts, to look at her brother. "I'll let you have some later, but we might have to hide them from Dad." Jason chuckled and nodded. Sunila turned back to Jake and the gifts immediately.

Sunila smiled as she saw the necklace and put it on. "This is so pretty! Thank you Jake! For everything!" She leaned over and gave him a gentle hug.

He tilted his head as she put the necklace on and smiled, before being hugged. His smile turned a whole lot more silly as he hugged back, and then he remembered that Jason was there. Pulling back a little bit, he hesitated for a moment before reaching out to put all the things back in, bar the necklace (obviously).

"There are more cookies at my house, along with the lego set," he explained as he fiddled with the lego Sunila, "so we can get them when we come back, if you want?"

He held the little lego figure up after that, holding the tiny little plastic lightsaber, and grinned. "She's gonna fit in with the big set. It's gonna look cool."

"Cool." Sunila replied. "We will definitely get them later. Maybe I'll even let my Dad have some too." She looked at the figure he was holding up. "It'll be awesome. We have to make a lego you too."

"I think I have the right parts back home to make a me," he said, before dropping the figure into his bag and zipping it shut. "Do you think I'll need to bring this," he asked Jason as he held up the backpack, "or would I be better leaving it here?"

Jason glanced at the backpack. "I wouldn't leave it here. Someone could take it. We can leave it on the island side of the door or bring it. They'll have lockers you can leave it in while you play. It's up to you."
