Abigail and Open!
Abigail hadn't been swimming in a long time. She worried about swimsuits. She couldn't pair them with a scarf as she did with her regular clothes. It might get ruined or come off in the water. Even one of those swimsuits with a high halter neckline that might cover her neck, ran the risk of slipping out of place in the water. And then people would see the ugly reminder of what her dad had done. She sometimes thought about asking one of the doctors or a person with magic abilities to remove the scar. The only thing that stopped her was her Papa's promise that one day she would find her scars to be beautiful reminders of her own strength. Today was not that day, and with a great deal of looking, she had found a swimsuit that seemed guaranteed to keep her neck covered.
Abigail walked to the water's edge and stopped. In all her time worrying about her appearance, she hadn't thought about what it would feel like to go swimming after such a long time. Let alone in open water. It wasn't as daunting as all the things she'd been through, but it still felt strange. She dipped her toes in the water timidly, not thinking of how she would look to others.
