He nodded in understanding, his hand going out to give her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. And then she started to explain further, and he found himself realising just how big a deal this was to her. He'd sort of known, but now, in the middle of it all, he really did see how perfect it was to her. And then her lips were on his, and he sunk into her kiss willingly, glad for the contact, feeling like he just needed it before he snapped.
"Of course I'd look after you," he told her softly. "I was only joking about leaving you on the floor, you know," he teased a little, not pulling away until she was ready to move back herself. He smiled broadly, and nodded in agreement.
"I think I'm the luckiest guy here tonight," he told her, with no hint of joking about it.
