Narrative
What had she been thinking? Really. Really! The Princess had put herself in a spot for sure. This was a small child, a human child, one which would cry and wet himself and require garment changes perhaps several times in the day!
In the day.
What had she been thinking?
Nothing, clearly. Or perhaps she had been thinking she would give a new friend a hand; that is how one cultivates friends, after all, by helping and being kind. Or maybe she had thought on some deeper level it would have meaning beyond friendship because of those things Hansel had told her mere days before. Things she did truly not believe yet there was proof it had been true once. She did not want to bring it up with Abi. Abi was too kind to her and they were surely not that good of friends to ask personal questions such as that. Hansel had been an error for he looked just like "Clint."
She did not remember.
How could she not remember?! That is what drove her more insane than anything else.
So, as if hoping this child who could only cry would provide answer, Princess Luna dragged herself from bed to meet with Abi for noon. Noon. When the sun was near its highest and the moon so far asleep, when she was deep into her own slumber. It was like waking up in the middle of the night to make a train, or flight, where one could not sleep because they had to stay awake and wake, and move, and do. She had not thought this through and yet here she was saying goodbye to her new friend with a baby and luggage. Alright.
"Well....Hello, Charlie Barton. I am Princess Luna. Do you remember me?" she asked, looking down at the little boy after the door had shut behind them and blocked out that awfully bright sun glinting off of the snowy white. The child smiled and wiggled in his seat, hands flailing at her as if he was in fact familiar with the woman. It did bring a smile to her face, which admittedly she had not done much of lately.
"You are quite cute, Charlie Barton," she confessed, reaching out to take his hand as he offered it to her. The bag float behind them as she guide him through the halls, doubled over to reach his tiny height despite her own short stature. Her wings were up behind her, stretched to the sky, before they fell and she looked at him. Everything behind her eyes had gone white and she felt hot, then cold, and for only mere seconds she went still as the boy tugged on her fingers. She saw everything and nothing but her mind was filled with images, memories, a flood of emotions and thoughts she hadn't known she ever had, could have, would have. It was overwhelming and she held her breath, feeling to a knee but somehow mindful even in her blind relapse of the boy. Laughter, hugs, tears, boring conversations, something about coffee, the giant mouse, the ring. Celestia, there was a ring. And then there was this baby that she had tucked in and kissed good night and held and made faces at when he made faces back.
Luna reached out to pick him up, the precious little baby. "Charlie Barton!" Luna cried. He giggled and flailed with glee, begging for more. She called his name again and hugged him, though she sank to the floor.
The look on her face was a long lost one, soft and joyful as her eyes closed and she hugged the boy to her chest. "Ooooh, Charlie Barton...I have missed you." She giggled and rubbed her nose to his, then kissed his forehead and lay back with an ooph, his small weight on her chest. He swat around as if playing the drums on her collar and she laughed again, tears in her eyes from the laughter and the pain that swelled in her. At least there was Charlie Barton, and she had good friends, new friends.
"I hear you had lunch. What would you like to do? A game? I do like games." The boy nodded childishly as he was rolled back and she sat up with a push of her wings, tickling his tummy.
"I got you, I got you!" Luna said as she laughed while Charlie did, eventually stopping and picking him up to head up the many, many steps to the main living area where he would stay with her. "I have blocks? Do you like those?" she asked to him as they went, his bag simply following behind while wrapped up in her magic.
