It wasn't that Colquhoun had been so very close to Lola, but it still hurt like hell. Because he was a mess without MacBryde, and Lola had changed that. She'd taken his mind off it, and made him think that it might actually be possible to find happiness with someone else, that maybe it was okay to move on-

And now, he felt angry. Angry at himself for being so stupid so as to let himself get close to anyone else, angry at himself for betraying MacBryde, even though he wasn't here, and he was a total slut at the best of times, and angry at the island. More than anything, angry at the island. It was as if it was punishing him.

He probably didn't look too healthy when he showed up on Rachel's doorstep. As he knocked on her door, he tried his best to keep it together, but his pale skin and glazed expression gave him away. He felt broken.
