When Tony woke up he immediately noticed the snow falling outside his window. He hadn't seen snow since the last time he was in New York in the winter time which had been a couple of years. He slipped on his favorite Black Sabbath t-shirt, still thankful to the being of Neverland for granting him that bit of home, as well as some jeans and running shoes. He thought at first about getting a jacket but decided against it. If he was going to be outside in the cold he was going to enjoy the cold. He noticed the tree soon after he got dressed, smiling a little at all the decorations. He had to clear his throat as it brought back memories from his childhood. He shook his head and made his way outside. Tony was a little surprised that it wasn't quite cold enough for snow when he stepped out onto the street, but the surprise lasted only for a moment before he remembered where he was. It just made the snow that much more enjoyable. He smiled at all the lights and decorations around the buildings and felt a tug at his heart. The familiar pang of grief for his mother. Dead over 20 years and it still felt like it was yesterday. Tony found himself walking toward the spire. He'd wanted to investigate it more after the effect it'd had on his reactor, but he was also afraid to get anywhere near it. He didn't want to have a heart attack in Neverland, especially since he didn't have any of the equipment necessary to fix the reactor. He'd definitely be dead and this was not the place he wanted that to happen. He couldn't keep himself from laughing when he saw the tree that used to be the spire. The decorations were beautiful and he just stared at it for a moment. Finding himself overcome with Christmas spirit, he started with humming and then singing his mother's favorite Christmas Carol. "The Christmas Song." He'd had the words memorized since he was a small boy because she sang it almost year round. It wasn't until the second half of the song that he noticed the lights. He stopped singing and the lights went back to the way they'd been before. Then Steve came to mind and Tony started singing again. A different song this time. "I'll be home for Christmas. You can plan on me. Please have snow and mistletoe and presents on the tree." He smiled as the lights started moving with the music. "Christmas Eve will find me. Where the love light gleams. I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams." He chuckled softly and if he'd been the Grinch his heart definitely would have grown three sizes in that moment. He tried it with Jingle Bells and with a couple of other Christmas songs he could think of, watching as the lights went along with whatever song he was singing. "Okay, this is officially awesome." He laughed. He hadn't felt like that in a very long time. Not since that last Christmas before his father had shipped him off to boarding school. |
