Rachel hadn't gone to too much trouble since it was just going to be the two of them. She hadn't bothered to ask if there was going to be a big family dinner. Even if there was, she was she felt it better if she stayed away. She'd gone to the store and gotten a ham that was actually already cooked and just needed to be heated. There were some mashed potatoes and gravy, and some green beans as well. She'd also gotten an apple pie for dessert, again one from the store that just needed heating up. All of it was very simple and easy to put together. She also had some chicken put aside just in case he didn't eat ham. She hadn't done anything fancy with the table other than some red and green napkins and plates that were decorated with holly. She wanted it to be festive but not look like more than just two friends having dinner. She'd meant it when she told him that and didn't want him thinking otherwise. She'd gotten a bottle of wine in case he might like it and some sparkling cider for herself. She tried to time it so that she stayed busy until he got there. |
