Mary wasn't exactly sure what made her want to check on Bucky, wasn't sure what had driven her to look in on the boys. Timmy was sleeping like a log, as usual. But Bucky's bed was empty. Panic set in that instant.
She didn't bother to dress in more than her nightgown. If she got pulled over she'd explain and either the cops would understand or she'd run off.
That lasted as long as she could stand it, when she got through with TJ. Taking a risk she had been avoiding the whole time they'd been in Cambridge she shifted. Never before had she done it so fast. The pain was excruciating, but she'd paused only long enough to shake herself.
Putting her nose to the pavement it took her only three seconds to find the direction Bucky hand went. When traffic came into account she didn't pause, she simply lept over cars and buses. Now wasn't the time to be skittish.
Her heart lept when she saw him trudging along in his monster pjs. She mewled after him. Picking up her steps to catch him.
