Lola had heard about the doors when reading the panicked network posts and decided that the stupid, apparently terrifying fog was messing with her favourite wigs, which had turned up out of nowhere in the apartment she’d fled to at the insistence of those she’d spoken to on the CB thing.
She’d found herself in the middle of what she could only describe as heaven. Carnival blazed around her, no one looked at a glamorous, hot panted black woman, who in her vast heels was nearly seven feet tall was barely even glanced at.

Trinidad was incredible. The colours! The noise! The atmosphere! The alcohol! God, it was heavenly. Bobby only wished MacBryde was there with him, but no doubt the promiscuous wee shitebag would have ran off with some dashing young local by now, anyway.

For Robert, he was drinking copious amounts of rum, scribbling endlessly in a sketchbook- God, his eyes couldn't take it all in quickly enough. And as he looked up again, a very colourful woman crossed his path, dressed in a manner he'd never really even witnessed before- an artist? A model? God, someone glamourous and exciting anyway, and he just had to ask-

"CanIdrawyou?" came out in an urgent, overexcited babble, before he cleared his throat and tried again. "Um, I mean- hello, I'm Robert, and you're... well, you're exquisite, darling!" he told her, beaming at her.

Lola turned dark eyes on him, her mouth turning up into a grin. "I know I am darling." Theatricality oozed through everything Lola did, every movement, sound and gesture, every clothing choice.

Oh, that smile, that voice! He wasn't wrong, she was absolutely incredible! For a strange moment, he felt almost like he just wanted to be her- or with her?- he wasn't sure any more. It was disorienting. "Rum?" he offered.

"I'm more of a vodka girl, but it seems fitting." Lola replied, sauntering closer.

"I'm sure I could provide, but yes, when in Trinidad and all that," he shrugged, requesting another glass from the bar, and filling her a glass.

"Well, I've done Rome." Lola settled on a bar stool, accessing this man, the other man she supposed, had he guessed, did he care? "You draw?"

"Ah, me too, 1939 before hightailing it off to Firenze-" he told her, and then realised what he'd said. Fuck! This wasn't the island, people weren't used to that sort of- he laughed, shrugging it off. Maybe she hadn't noticed?

And as for her gender... he hadn't exactly guessed, but considering the sudden attraction, he'd probably have been more surprised with himself if she were of the opposite sex. And no, he definitely wouldn't care. Impressed, more like. The sheer boldness of it all.

"Oh, yes. Paint, more, but it's a bit much to cart a bunch of oils around everywhere," he commented.

"1939..." Lola leaned back on her stool a little. "I know darlin' works of art take time and effort." She gestured to herself.

"Mm, not looking too bad on it, eh?" he joked, and then smiled widely as she referred to herself as a work of art. She really was. "I'm not sure I could do you justice," he told her.

"You do love." Lola eyed him. "I design everything about myself, no one can do me justice."

Robert gave her a smile, but was happy to move on from the conversation that was likely to get him sectioned. "You do? Wow, consider me impressed," he told her, taking a sip of rum.

"Right answer love." Lola grinned. Her wig was hotter than hell, and itching in the heat, but there was no way she was taking it off.

"Mm, same really. Sort of gatecrashing a wedding," he shrugged, realising he'd asked a question even he didn't want to answer.

Well, there was his answer, and Colquhoun was giving him more of a curious look than a shocked one. "I can hardly imagine you dressed down," he admitted... although she did have beautiful eyes, a gorgeous complexion... still stunning, no doubt.

"Oh, I believe it," he drawled slightly, and then took a drink of rum. Fuck, was he flirting? What had happened to his wailing after his sweetheart routine?
