Jake was up his favorite tree as soon as he'd gotten dressed and had breakfast. His older self hadn't come home from the forest since he'd spoken to Neytiri over the network yesterday, and Jake was kinda worried. He told himself over and over again that Jake knew what he was doing and that he was a grown adult and a warrior and he'd stayed out in the forest before and all kinds of different things that should have been reassuring, but they weren't. Neytiri was worried. Layontspang was restless, and Banshee hadn't come home once it got dark. Captain Rogers was kinda freaked out too, along with other people commenting on his post. So Jake was up his tree, keeping watch.
He lost track of time as he sat up there, checking his phone every so often in case someone else had posted anything, and eventually he spotted a flash of blue amongst the trees. Scrambling down to the ground, Jake jumped the last few feet and hit the ground running.
"Jake! Jake, hey!"
"Oissss!"
His older self spun towards him as he hissed, moving real fast, his hand already pulling his dagger from its sheath on his chest and only stopping as he sniffed the air and realized who was calling for him. Jake had been making his way through some undergrowth as that happened, and didn't see any of it. All he knew was that older Jake was waiting for him, arms crossed over his chest, when he pushed his way through. Wisps of fog crept round their ankles as they stood there, but neither of them paid much attention to it
"You okay? You're covered in scrapes," Jake pointed out, only to get waved off.
"I'm fine. I thought Neytiri told you to stay out of the forest?"
"She said these trees were okay," he explained, "and I was waiting on you coming back. You've been gone almost a full day! Did Banshee find you?" He frowned as he kept talking, not entirely sure that his older self was listening to him. His ears kept twitching, and he kept glancing away, back into the forest. "Jake? What's up?"
"Huh? You can't... uh. Banshee? I think he's at the grove," the Na'vi said, before stretching as tall as he could (which was very tall indeed) and yawning. He slumped a bit when he was done, but his ears kept flickering.
"Have you slept yet? Or eaten?"
There was a pause before older Jake replied, rubbing at his face as he spoke. "Uh... no. No, not yet. I should do that."
"Which one? Jake, hey, which one?" His older self had turned away while Jake was speaking to him, and was now staring back into the forest, his head tilted to the side while his ears continued to twitch. "Jake!"
"What?!" the Na'vi snapped, his fangs more than a bit bared, before he seemed to stop himself, turn round and walk out of the forest, leaving Jake behind. "Fucking asshole," he muttered, before running after his grumpy older self.
"I'm going to bed. Don't follow me!" older Jake said over his shoulder, before turning round to look at his younger self. "And don't swear, or Sook'll have my hide for teaching you bad manners!" He glanced back at the forest after that and shook his head as if to clear it, before heading over to the barn. Jake waited until he went through the doors and there was a yelp of surprise before shouting after him, "LAYONTSPANG'S IN THERE! DON'T WAKE HER!"
"Yeah, thanks!" was yelled back, but Jake was already heading back to the house.
