The cart set out for the diner and Matt sat back, smiling, eyes warm. "I met her on the Orient Express, when we were both Fourteen. I was a little older, but not by much. We grew to like each other there, and when we got dumped from the train, we ended up in a new universe together, living close by one another, and slowly became a romantic couple. When we were 19 or so, we were dropped on the island where many others from the train already were."
Matt shook his head. "It was an incredible time, back then, and we didn't have a care. We were still learning what it means to love, and we had no clue about troubles or problems. then the universes snatched me away, and de-aged me, back to 15, which I had been when we exited the train. I returned to my world, to find it reft by war and strangeness. I lived there for two and a half years, graduating early thanks to teaching I got here and on the train, and started pre-med a year ago. And suddenly, here I am again." As the cart rumbled along, he glanced at her and out into the day.
"And while I was gone, she de-aged and lost her memories, of the time since the train anyway. But she's still the girl I knew, once, who I care about a lot."
