Steve shrugged, "We didn't have many other options. And it reminded us of Mama." he told her, munching on his own slice of toast, using it as an excuse to sit with her for a little bit. He'd been thinking about his past far too much over the past few days and seeing her there with him, pregnant with their daughter, it helped ground him in the here and now in a way no one else could. "And I did eventually get better at it. Sort of." he smiled softly.
He couldn't hold back the small smile of her enjoying something as simple as toast so much and he wanted to cherish those simple memories as long as he could. He knew what was going to come, that he was going to lose her eventually, but that didn't matter to him now. Now she was there and she was happy with her toast and that was enough. "Only if you want to." he told her, knowing he could find something for her to do if only to keep her in the kitchen with him.
