Dale Cooper was, of course, aware that there was a game going on and that it was the cause of many of the strange and awe-inspiring things they'd been experiencing of late. He'd heard that the Arena they'd just 'left' this morning was familiar to some of the island's denizens. That they'd been forced to fight to the death in them in their world. While not an unfamiliar concept in ancient civilisations, he'd felt that entertainment really should have moved on from that. But being what he was, Dale Cooper understood that some people had a skewed sense of what they considered entertainment. Despite his interest in how the arena itself worked though, like everyone else, Dale was pleased to be 'back'. They had proper shelter here, more supplies and more resources. But he'd barely had time to enjoy any of that before he'd received a rather important message. He'd been called to play the game along with someone called Grey White. He wondered if that had been a conscious decision by his or her parents. Not that he would ever pass judgement on a person because of their name. As far as he understood it, they had to play the game to its conclusion, after which it was assumed that everyone that had disappeared during its playing would be returned. He, of course, way happy to play. As a matter of precaution, Agent Cooper was wearing the bullet-proof vest he had arrived in, along with what he felt was relatively practical attire. Of course, you couldn't really plan for what environment you might end up in. But he had on some sturdy boots and a windbreaker all the same. He also carried his firearm with him, a survival knife, a small torch and a canteen. You never could be too prepared. Due to his preparation though, Cooper was a little later than his partner in making it to the board. He assumed she was the one standing by herself and not acting strangely. Clearly the other two had had their turn. "Grey White?" he asked, offering her a friendly smile and his hand. "I'm Dale Cooper. I hope I haven't kept you waiting too long. I wanted to make sure I was prepared before we started. As far as I understand it, there's no telling where we might end up." He was still smiling, although he looked over at the other two players. "Did you see what happened to them?" he asked curiously. Perhaps they'd had to lick toads or something. But clearly it was their turn now. "Shall we?" Cooper asked, gesturing toward the board. He offered her the dice in a manner that suggested he didn't mind if she took it or not. If she was disinclined to he would, of course, roll the dice for them. The dice was rolled and the piece they had taken charge of moved eight spaces, at which point the world around them blurred as they found themselves being sucked into a world within the game. They landed, thankfully on their feet, in a world that could be at first described as medieval, and then described as fantastical. As Dale Cooper looked around, his face filled with wonder. In front of them stood a large stone castle and behind them a meadow. A meadow in which unicorns were grazing. "That sure is something." But if that wasn't enough wonder for them, turning back to the castle, he spotted some large winged creatures that looked suspiciously like dragons flying about in the distance. "Huh," was about all he could say to that. In moving, Dale had come to realise that he was in a suit of medieval armour. He had a great helm tucked under one arm, and a scroll held in the other. He unravelled it and read it out loud. "We're going on an adventure. Roll a five to come back alive," he handed the note to Grey in case she wanted to peruse it. "Well, that's a bit ominous. I have no doubt the other team will return to the game and that we will be replaced. So it's only a matter of time," he smiled reassuringly. "And I don't plan to do any dying." Although his weapons had been replaced and he wasn't exactly an experienced swordsman. If he could get his hands on a bow, however, he had had that archery lesson with Agent Barton. Dale looked around again, this time wondering what exactly it was they had to do here. It all seemed very peaceful. But he didn't want to make the assumption that they soon wouldn't be fighting for their lives. At least not yet. |
