Grey.
"No maybe not," she agreed. She hoped this would be the worse of it, because the island was starting to give Thomas a run for its money in terms of sadistic behaviour, before this it had just been silly things, but this was...this was seriously fucked up.
She'd been about to say something else, to agree with him, It had been different with Lex, only just but he'd been much more open about things, feelings which had sort of forced her to be the same, with all the discomfort and horrible feeling of vulnerability that went with it. In some ways this was better, they didn't have to talk about things, they had enough to talk about without resorting to feelings and other horribly uncomfortable stuff.
Only suddenly he was talking, like he had to get it out and he was still saying he was fine. Jesus he was even more stubborn than she was. "It won't be," she said quickly, "something'll come back. Something'll happen it won't be the last thing you'll remember of her." Because it couldn't be, because that was just too fucking cruel. "And for fuck's sake, Malcolm you don't have to be fine," she pointed out, soundly slightly angry, though not at him, at the island, the situation and the fact that she was pretty sure was talking bollocks. "And if you are then there really is something wrong with you." She twisted so they were face to face again, moving her hand from his arm, and reaching out as if she was going to touch his face, only she paused, leaving her hand just sort of hovering in mid air. "Fuck," she muttered. She hated this, the way she felt, her inability to verbalise any of it, everything sounded so fucking trite in her head and just felt lost and awkward. This wasn't who she was, and what if, like this, completely stripped her confidence and banter she was just useless and scared and he saw that and didn't like it? Then what?
"And you don't have keep it together, it's not a sign of weakness, you know?" Not that she could really talk. She'd cried once in front of Lex in ten fucking years. But then nothing like had happened to her.
