Jake and open
Jake had struggled with his present, something that felt like a very thick book under the wrapping, since he wasn't quite up to using only one crutch and the parcel was heavy. Still, he'd managed to move back from the tree and the rest of the people still milling about, and made it to the nearest snow-cleared curb where he sat down. Legs out straight(ish) in front of him, he put his crutches to one side and carefully opened his present.
He never usually wanted things. Not for his birthday or for Christmas, not really. As long as Tommy got stuff, it was cool. And now today, he was getting all sorts of things! This, though, he had no idea what sort of thing it could be. Tommy was the one who got books, not him. But this was definitely for him, and it was definitely a book, bound in a strange sort of leather with metal at the corners and a weird clasp-thing that needed unclicked before he could get at the pages.
"Oh, fuck..." he muttered under his breath. There were photos and newspaper clippings of him and Tommy as kids, his sporting achievements and Tommy getting all kinds of awards for science and maths and pretty much everything, and family photos with mom and dad, and then family photos that were just him and Tommy, Tommy heading off to college, him in his Blues... what the hell was this, where had all these things come from? And then he froze, because the next photos, they weren't of him or Tommy. They were Grace's photos, from the school back on Pandora. That was Neytiri and Sylwanin, and holy shit, was that Tsu'tey? The book flicked back and forth between him and Tommy and photos of his People, and soon enough he found photos of Neytiri training him!
Falling off the Pa'li, sitting on a branch learning Na'vi, learning Na'vi with Norm, working on his bow with the other young taronyu, talking with Grace and Trudy, getting hammered with Tsu'tey and then dancing with Neytiri at the celebration after his first hunt, so many different moments... and he had no idea how there were photos of any of them.
