Steve and his mom had been doing some of the shopping. He liked it when they would walk along and look in the different shop windows. They always had to stop every now and then to let him catch his breath. It was difficult getting around with braces and if it weren't for the crutches Uncle Liam made him it would be next to impossible. His mom didn't seem to mind the stopping, though. And she never picked him up to carry him. Not unless he was really tired or they were in a hurry. He made his way slowly down the street, looking around and noticing that there were a lot less people on the sidewalk. He also couldn't find his mommy. She'd been right there in front of him. He tried to speed up to see if maybe she'd just gotten distracted and forgot to go slow, but it was hard. And his legs were starting to hurt. He smelled the bakery before he saw it and smiled. Maybe his mommy had gone into there. She did like to get fresh bread whenever she could. She didn't always have time to make it herself. It was really hard to get the door open and hold onto his crutches but that wasn't going to stop him from trying. He frowned, though, because his mommy would have come to hold the door open for him right away. |
