Lillian held the lunch bag close to her. Inside was lunch for Steven, which she had taken to bringing him the days he worked at the hospital. It didn’t take her long to reach the hospital. She greeted the nurse behind the counter with a smile and asked for Steven to be paged. Sometimes she would drop it off if she knew he was extra busy but today she wanted to see her husband. She stood to the side with his lunch hanging from her arm and waited for Steven to finish his work. She looked around curiously, watching the patients and the nurses interact. She had been thinking lately about getting a job, wanting something else to do during the day. But a big part of her wanted to always be available for Steven incase he needed anything. ~*~ Steven finished up restocking the supply closet as best he could, thanks to things purchased by Tony. He got the page and wondered who it could be, heading to the front desk. He smiled brightly when he saw Lillian. His arm no longer in the cast but in a splint, he was able to actually give her a real hug, kissing her softly on the lips. “This is a wonderful surprise. You usually just drop it off.” ~*~ Seeing the smile on Steven’s face makes Lillian’s heart beat a little faster and a blush to color her cheeks. Surprise is clearly written on her face when she sees the splint that has replaced his cast, before she can say anything about it Steven’s arms are wrapped around her and her lips are taken in a welcomed kiss. “I wanted to see you” She grinned, “I love the new addition to your arm accessories.” She pulled away to inspect the splint, “When did you get the cast off?” ~*~ Steven looked at the splint and chuckled. “This morning. I thought they were just going to do some more x-rays and tell me how much longer I had in the cast, but Doc took it off and gave me this.” He grinned. “Gotta wear this for three weeks and then they’ll check it again.” ~*~ She grinned, looking up at her husband and leans up to kiss him once more, “That’s terrific, Steven. I know how much you hated having that horrible thing on” She smiled, “Do you have a little more movement or breathing room with it?” She met his eyes, the smile still on her face. ~*~ He nodded. “Yeah, I can move it a bit more freely.” He showed her. “And, as long as I’m careful, I can take the splint off and go back to taking showers.” He chuckled and winked at her. “Though I haven’t really minded the baths.” ~*~ Lillian’s blush was back with a vengeance when Steven mentions the baths, “Well, we wouldn’t want you to accidently hit it on something in the shower. We should stick to the baths for now” She giggled, resting her face on his chest. “I love you, Steven” She looked back up at him, wrapping her arms around his waist. ~*~ He chuckled and nodded. “Yes, definitely. I’ve gotten to liking the baths.” He kissed her again. “I love you too, Lillian.” He reached up and touched her cheek. “How about we take this to the breakroom?” ~*~ She pulled away from Steven, “Are you able to take lunch now?” She smiled, “I knew I should have brought something for myself. I didn’t want to just assume you would be able to get away though” She kept his lunch bag close and let Steven lead her to the break room. ~*~ Steven nodded and headed toward the break room, keeping an arm around Lillian. “I can take a break whenever I want unless something happens.” He chuckled. “And you know that I never finish everything you cook for me.” ~*~ She wrapped her free arm around his waist, keeping him close to her. “That’s great that you have flexibility like that. I thought about getting a job, maybe something part time?” She asked, wanting to know what Steven thought about it. “I do give you a little too much, don’t I?” She laughed softly. ~*~ He nodded and smiled. “I like it, though. I usually put the leftovers in the fridge for anybody that needs something to eat.” He grinned. “Bruce usually ends up eating it.” He chuckled. “But now we can have lunch together.” He kissed her cheek before opening the break room door for her. “They’re looking for someone to do some filing if you’re interested.” He smiled, then his eyes went wide. “Oh! Speaking of your improved cooking skills, I invited Bucky for dinner when he’s feeling up to it. And...Maryanne and Clint.” He bit his lip. “Not at the same time, though.” ~*~ Lillian followed her husband into the break room and set his lunch bag on one of the tables, “You wouldn’t mind having your wife working here? I don’t want to smother you” She smiled, she was always so paranoid that she wasn’t giving Steven space. “Oh I would love to have all of them over.” She smiled, “How is Bucky? I haven’t seen him yet” She pulled the two sandwiches, chips, a pickle, and a piece of cake for dessert out of the lunch bag and set them on the table. “Is he settling in well?” ~*~ “We’d be in different parts of the hospital so it’s not like we’d be on top of each other.” He grinned. “But it’d make my breaks a lot better.” He chuckled before taking a seat. “He’s doing okay so far. I haven’t seen him since he left the hospital but he’s going to help fix up the children’s wing.” He nodded. ~*~ “Do you think I should apply for it?” She asked, still on the fence about getting a job, “Well I wouldn’t object to more days like this” She grinned and sat down next to him at the table, “Did he get his own place?” She was already thinking up dinner possibilities for when Bucky came over. “What is his favorite thing to eat?” She wanted to add something familiar to the island. She knew how overwhelming it could be at first. ~*~ “I think you just need to let Doc know you want it and it’s yours.” He chuckled. “And I would really like having you around here.” He kissed her cheek before picking up one of the sandwiches and taking a bite. It didn’t take long for him to come up with Bucky’s favorite meal. “Steak.” He nodded. ~*~ “Alright, well I guess I should let Doc know then” She grinned, “I was really hoping that you would be okay with it. I love being home but I think getting out more will be good for me” She blushed, watching him take a bite of the sandwich, “Steak and potatoes?” She asked, stealing one of his chips from the bag, grinning. ~*~ “Steak with a side of steak and extra steak.” He laughed and shook his head. “We didn’t get much in the way of meat back home, if you’ll remember.” He took another bite of his sandwich. ~*~ “Extra steak, got it” She laughed, “It seems like so long ago, doesn’t it?” She sighed, stealing another chip from his bag, “Sometimes I have to work really hard to remember what life was like before the island” She reached over and squeezed Steven’s thigh gently. ~*~ He reached down and took her hand, squeezing gently. “I like life on the island better, I think.” He kissed her cheek. “Even with all the time I’ve spent in the hospital. It’s all worth it because I have you.” ~*~ Lillian laces her fingers with Stevens, “I love life on this island” She smiled, kissing his cheek softly, “I can’t imagine my life without you, Steven. I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the whole world” She lightly pecked his lips. ~*~ He kissed back and smiled. “I love you Mrs. Rogers.” ~*~ Lillian grinned and reached up to stroke his cheek, “That’s something else I’ll never get tired of” She grinned. ~*~ “How about we finish lunch and then I’ll talk to Doc about heading home early?” He smirked. ~*~ “Have I told you how smart you are lately, husband of mine?” She giggled and pops another chip into her mouth. ~*~ “Not lately, no.” He smiled and took another bite of his sandwich. |
