Steve didn't move when she started, but made sure she'd be able to see his hands and that he didn't touch her. He knew that feeling and didn't want to make it worse. He just nodded solemnly, he'd seen Tony write about Richie.
He didn't say anything at first, just sat himself down next to her, pulled off his jacket and wrapped a gentle arm around her, laying the warm coat over her as he tucked her in to his side. Sure he could tell her that he just went home and he was okay but he was sure she knew that, sure she'd heard it before. Sometimes it didn't matter, it still hurt, to know they weren't right there anymore, and even though he might be okay, she couldn't see him anymore, didn't get to say goodbye and that wasn't easy. And he understood that.
"He'll never forget you." he murmured to her softly, brushing her hair away from her face gently.
