Quinn's brow furrowed as she spoke, especially when she used the words 'certain things'. It made him look at her again. To study her, to try to figure out if he got that supernatural, magical community feel from her. Which, admittedly, he didn't always get from people anyway.
The pause caught his attention and blue eyes narrowed a bit, wondering briefly what was going through her mind to cause the pause, before his expression reverted back to faint intrigue as she continued. "So these... things that are after you, are nearby?" he asked. He wasn't sure he was up to dealing with anything in his current state so he hoped not. Although, if she was the one that wasn't very good...
"I like the ocean," he replied.
At first that was the only response he was going to give and he rested both hands on the sand either side of him, feeling the faint warmth and calm of Earth energy, trying to push through the sand to him, combined with the calming strength of the Water energy that rushed through his fingertips from the waves. Nothing of this showed outwardly, of course. He just appeared to be resting his hands on the sand and nothing else, it didn't even show upon his face.
"I left someone behind. She was in danger at the time." The words came out soft and he looked back out at the water. He felt the guilt of not being able to help Cleo hit him hard and then he shook his head, fingers curling around the flask to take another swig. Fuck it, if he got stuck, he got stuck.
