After searching the area to make sure he hadn't just misplaced the cloaked Puddle Jumper Sheppard started in the direction the strange communicator was indicating. He had spent a few minutes studying after he realised it wasn't one of the pieces of equipment from the Jumper then figured he may as well follow the directions on it.
"Sun's traveling in the right path for this to be Earth. Plant looks... well the same... mostly... no human lifesigns yet..."
He kept walking, checking the directions constantly. He didn't realise he actually talked out loud when he was by himself thinking.
"Aha! Buildings!" he'd declared to no-one at all, when the tops of the city came into view when he cleared the forest. Turning toward it after checking the communicator he kept walking, hitching his P90 a little on his shoulder and pulling out his water bottle to take a swig. A small trickle of sweat ran down his spine, the sun having been full on his back now for a while. He rolled his shoulder a little, hunching his back to move the body armour vest so it relieved the itch.
A while later he was staring around at buildings, empty buildings. Lots of empty buildings, all looking like they'd been abandoned. And in amongst them a huge spire, that looked completely out of place here, but not so much to him. He checked the directions and saw they weren't leading him directly to the strange spire, and was a little relieved. Things never did go too well when you had directions to those sort of things first. At least it didn't look much like a Wraith structure.
So he kept walking, eyeing the strangely empty buildings as he passed them, hand firmly on the grip and trigger of his P90. Rounding a corner he saw yet another street, and yet again empty. And empty buildings. But not all of them. There as a garage that had a swept forecourt, and looked like it was being used at least as a workshop. A supermarket with no-one in it, but the doors open and a soft hum of at least some refrigeration audible when he checked by pushing a door open and listening. Passing a few more streets, still following the communicator he realised there were even more books around than there had been before.
"Someone set off a library bomb here?" he muttered, glancing down at a pile sitting on the pavement against the wall of a shop he passed. "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea huh? How about twenty billion miles from home?"
Finally he reached a door that the communicator showed he had to enter. Looking around he saw a street sign.
"Bumsey Road and Devil's Street?" Sheppard shook his head and checked the windows of the store, abandoned, then entered the door that led to an apartment upstairs.
"Hello?" he called out, climbing the stairs, his weapon still held at the ready.
"Captain Jensen? This is Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard, we spoke earlier?"
