Meg frowned and reached out for Rory, putting her left arm around him and giving a half-hug.
"Hey," she said quietly, feeling awkward and yet natural. Maybe she'd always wanted a family. Maybe she had gone bad, but she'd never really left that piece of her behind. Perhaps that was how she really did good deeds, not merely for her own purpose, but because she actually wanted to. What did she have to lose in this place?
"If that's the kinda life someone like me got in another universe, I'll take it," said Meg in a still quiet voice. "I wish I could'a been lucky enough to live a bit longer in mine. Maybe you would have been just around the corner." Strange thought. Pleasant thought, knowing Rory. He was a good kid, she liked him. She didn't know how to say it, save for what she just said. That was about as good as she had right now. This was all new to her.
