Juliet's body shook with relief and she was standing beside Jake before she even knew she had moved. Her entire focus was on the crib, and tears welled up when she looked into it and saw the small, intact body. Without even thinking she leaned in and scooped the sleeping child up, in its bedsheets, and held her close as she turned to Jake. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the man standing there, bag in hand, looking in at them.
"She's OK," she told him, looking from the man to Jake and back again, ignoring the mess on the bed beside her. "She's OK." A tiny snuffle and grunt came from the child as it wriggled a little.
