Fortunately the hospital wasn’t far from the apartments. As soon as they parked, Cal got out and pulled Colin out of the car, carrying him inside quickly. He got him onto a gurney, ignoring the blood on his clothes, and wheeled him into an exam room.
--
Sookie followed, grateful to be away from the mass of people and letting her head relax a bit from the violence. “Can I help?” she asked, still in her pyjamas
--
Cal nodded. “Yes, I need you to stay with him.” He started to get Colin hooked up to various monitors. “I have to go get the blood. Keep your eyes on those monitors. If anything changes, push that button.” He pointed to a red button on the wall. “It’ll set off an alarm throughout the hospital.”
--
“Yes. I can do that.” She nodded and waited for Cal to get Colin hooked up properly, making sure she didn’t get in the way of anything for fear of letting out a wire. “Hurry.”
--
Cal nodded and ran to where the blood was being stored. He grabbed as much of the O- that he could and headed back to the exam room, starting to hook everything up, though he didn’t give Colin the blood just yet. “I need you to go into the next room and get me five suture kits. They’re clearly labeled in the cabinet.”
--
“Okay.” She nodded and dashed off to the next room, locating what the doctor needed and bringing them back. Sookie was trying hard not to think about what was happening, just that Colin was getting the help he needed.
--
Cal put some gloves on quickly and took one of the kits, starting to work on the biggest wound. “They’re not deep enough to require surgery but he will need stitches for most of them. Do you have any idea what happened?”
--
Sookie tried to not watch as the doctor sewed her friend back together, “I don’t know, it was like…” she wrung her hands, “It was like I saw everyone’s nightmares, it was the same nightmare but it wasn’t. People got stalked, they got attacked, they just… there was so much blood and screaming and pain and his smile was in every one of them. I saw one with Colin getting slashed and I didn’t think I’d walk in and find him lying in a pool of his own blood. You think I’m insane.”
--
Cal shook his head, keeping his eyes on his work. Once one cut was stitched he quickly moved to the next, keeping careful count of how many stitches were required.
"I'm a woman who is trapped in her husband's body, trust me when I say you're not insane." He looked up to smile at her briefly before getting back to stitching up Colin.
--
“This place. It’s the one making us insane. I don’t know. I don’t know.” She bit at her nails, “Sorry.”
--
"It's okay.". He said again. "Could you do me a favor and go get some gauze from the supply closet down the hall?". He was going to have to work on Colin's back and he didn't want her to faint.
--
She nodded and tore her eyes away from Colin and Cal before heading out the door to a silent hallway. Sook was still covered in blood and, though it didn’t bother her anymore, just knowing whose it was stung. Still, she went into the supply closet and found a roll of gauze, taking the entire thing where it was wrapped up in plastic. “Here.” she said as she came inside and saw Cal.
