The dreams were extremely vivid. He was being chased. Some kind of robot was running him down, trying to kill him. He ran and ran and ran. There was a man laughing maniacally somewhere in the distance. The man wanted him dead, that's all he knew. Occasionally the robot would catch up and cut him. First his upper left arm, then across his back. The cut to the back if his thigh cause him to stumble. The robot was on him then. He rolled over, trying to protect himself. Arms up to protect his face. The robot slashed at his forearms, getting in a deep gash to his chest and another to his stomach. His eyes sprang open as a scream erupted from him. He was in agony. He tried to reach for his phone but then remembered it was in the living room. His clothes and sheets were soaked with blood. He tried to get up but couldn't stand. He started to crawl. The only way he would get help was to get to his phone. There was a trail of blood soaking the carpet as he did his best to make it across the living room to his phone. The blood loss was too much and he lost consciousness mere inches away.
---
Sookie tossed and turned for hours, hearing all of the nightmares around her. People she didn’t even know getting hunted by the same man, hearing the voice, seeing the twisted smile and watching bloody encounter after bloody encounter. She screamed and grabbed her head as she saw Colin, vivid as daylight, get slashed and blood ooze from his body. Sook tried to tell herself that it was just her own nightmare but her mind knew better and could always tell the difference between her own thoughts and those of other people. Sook couldn’t stand it and rocked on her bed until the nightmares went away. But she could smell the blood. Feel everyone’s pains like they were her own but Colin’s stood out. She didn’t know why but she had to make sure he was alright after a nightmare like that. She had to check.
Sook threw on her sneakers and sprinted to Colin’s place in her pyjamas, panting as she pounded on the front door. “COLIN!” she yelled, tearing her own hair out as she still heard and saw everyone’s nightmares. “COLIN!” Her voice became strained and desperate when she heard no response. Her anger sprang into her fingers and the electric she had only ever experienced once before shot from her fingertips to his front door, busting it open. She shook it off and ran inside to find him, figuring she could apologise later.
---
Colin lay there, pool of blood soaking into the carpet, his hand outstretched toward the table that held his phone.
--
Sookie had to stop a scream as she saw him and dashed down onto her knees, tapping his face, “Colin, Colin, wake up! Please, God, wake up!” she sobbed and cupped his face in her hands desperately, trying to reach out with her mind into his. “Fuck.” she sniffed and grabbed his phone, seeing the first doctor’s name, Dr Emerson, on there and dialling. “Come on, come on, wake up, Colin.” she knew to put pressure on his wounds but there were too many and he was losing too much blood.
---
"Hello?" Cal answered sleepily. Fortunately he'd been able to answer before waking Rae.
---
“He..hello?” Sookie said shakily, “Is this Dr Emerson? I’m at my friend’s house and he’s hurt and bleeding and I don’t know what to do!” she sobbed, “Please help me.”
---
Cal was awake immediately. "Keep pressure on it. I'll be right there. Where are you?". He got up and started to get dressed.
--
Sookie balanced the phone on her shoulder and put pressure on the biggest wound, “It’s an apartment um… I’m not sure where. Fuck, there’s too many wounds.”
--
"I'll be there soon. I think I can track with the phone. Just keep it on." Once he was dressed, he left a quick note for Rae and then took off running.
--
“Okay.” she said before hanging up, still seeing and hearing nightmares of everyone in the building running through her mind. The same sadistic smile, the eyes that stalked their prey. Sookie couldn’t breathe and kept putting pressure on Colin’s wounds.
--
Cal was able to find the apartment quickly with the phone's tracking system. He stared at the broken door for two seconds before stepping in. As soon as he saw Colin, he blinked.
"Shit.". There was no other thing for it. "We need to get him moved now."
--
“How?” Sookie was shaking, soaked in blood and on the verge of disaster, “He’s… he looks dead.” She whispered, shaking her head. “Is he dead?”
--
Cal checked for a pulse and sighed. "It's very weak but it's there." Rather than worrying about it, Cal just picked Colin up, grunting a bit as he did. "I think there's a car outside."
--
Sookie nodded, “I can drive, just help him, please.” she grabbed the door and ran ahead of the doctor, “I… I’m Sookie.”
--
“Wish we were meeting under different circumstances.” Cal smiled and continued to carry Colin, heading downstairs as quickly as possible.
--
“You’re telling me.” Sookie had to concentrate hard to keep the nightmares away. “Will he be alright?”
--
“If he gets enough blood.” Cal nodded, sighing. “He’s going to need a lot.” He found one of the cars and loaded Colin into the back. “And we need to hurry.”
--
“I don’t know what type he is.” she muttered, following Cal into the car with Colin, “Is there like a universal donor type?”
--
“We have some O- at the hospital, that’ll work until we can type and cross.” He nodded. “Just drive fast.”
--
“Okay.” She got into the front and started up the car with the key inside the ignition and drove unsteadily to the hospital. Her mental barriers were starting to weaken at the onslaught and she knew her brain could only take so much intensity.
