Ernest was in a right tizzy. It didn't help that he was still not able to put his full weight onto his gored leg, and it didn't help that he didn't know what the hell had really happened to Bumby. He couldn't say "it was only a nightmare" when the physical evidence was clear. This was something different, and his child was understandably scared.
But the worst thing was that he just kept crying, and saying that he wanted his mommy. Ernest was trying to hold him, trying to stop the bleeding, but Bumby struggled against him. God, he needed Hadley now.
The door was unlocked to save Ernest having to hobble his way over to let her in. "Yes, yes- please, come on in," he called out in response. Maybe a woman's presence would calm his child down.
