Rabbit! Padfoot followed his nose. Delicious little rabbit. He could smell it. It had to be around here somewhere. Paws as big as a fist trudged through the wood. The dog's coat was soaked from the still wet leaves. It had rained earlier this morning. The dog sniffed, taking in the cool fresh air. This was what life shoul be like. Free and running in the woods with not a care in the world. The dog didn't care and either did Sirius who was buried inside of it. A sniff in the right direction and he was able to pick up the scent of the rabbit again. And off he was. He jumped over branches and climbed underneath them. The ground was slippery but all what mattered to Padfoot was the excitement of the chase. Whether he got the rabbit or not was subordinate. This was about freedom and running and chasing. It was about letting go of his everyday life and just be what he wanted to be. --- Freedom. That's what the woods had always meant to Katniss. Outside, she could breathe, and with everything that had happened to her in the last two years, she was relieved to feel almost normal. She had set a few snares, and was so relieved to have arrived with her own weapons. Her bow in hand and quiver at her back, she made her way through the woods, wondering what kind of animals they had. She moved almost silently and then paused as she saw a flash of brown- a rabbit? She raised her bow to shoot, but hesitated at the sight of an oversized dog behind it. --- The dog didn't notice the human around, he was so caught up in the chase that he did not recognise the familiar smell of a human. All that counted was the rabbit. And then suddenly it was gone. Vanished into a hole. Padfoot slipped on the leaves as he tried to stop his full run, barely managing to not crash into the tree over the hole. The dog barked. This wasn't fair. He put his muzzle as far into the hole as he could and barked some more. Protesting helped. It made him feel better. He pulled his muzzle out again and sat down on his hinches, tongue lolling out of his mouth. What should he do next? --- Katniss was still, cocking her head as she watched the dog. He didn't seem wild, but who on earth would own a domesticated dog out here? She lowered her bow, against her usual instincts, but she didn't think it would be right to shoot it just yet. Perhaps, if it attacked, she might, but she didn't have to shoot right away. Stepping forward, started toward the animal, hesitantly. --- Padfoot's ears perked up at the sound of someone approaching. He turned around and his tail started to wag. Human. Humans were fun. He was a human. Most of the time. He was fun. Padfoot gave a friendly bark before Sirius noticed the bow in her hand. Holy shit! Sweet Merlin, he didn't necessarily wanted to get shot. Nope, Dom would kill him if he did. And so he turned. Padfoot made room for Sirius and a smiling young man appeared in the place of the dog. "Please, no shooting," he said, holding up his hands. --- Katniss took half a step back as the dog disappeared and a man appeared in its place. What the-? She frowned, readjusting her hold on her bow. "I- what was that? Who are you? Are you a muttation?" --- Sirius grinned up. He hadn't been shot yet and thus his confidence was growing. Dusting off his knees, he got up. "Err... a. a dog turning into a man," he said, counting the answers to her questions with his finger. "B. Sirius Black. C. No, but I'm a wizard. And you would be?" --- Katniss blinked. A wizard. She'd never even heard of such a thing. Or of humans who could turn into dogs. Or vice versa. "Katniss Everdeen." She didn't offer up any more, not sure of what to make of this whole situation. This whole island made her nervous, to be perfectly honest, and now there were things like this? It didn't make sense. --- "Nice to meet you," Sirius grinned. His eyes sparkled with glee. Her reluctance went unnoticed. The young wizard could fill almost any silence with the most irrelevant conversations. It was quite a skill. "So, how long have you been here?" he said, waggling his eyebrows in a friendly manner before he stretched himself. The change was still in his bones. |
