Steven was worried ever since his talk with Maryanne. Yes, he shouldn’t have shared such private information with her, but he wanted to talk to someone and didn’t feel like he could really talk to Peggy or Steve about it. The problem was that Maryanne had brought up some very good points. He’d been home all day, trying to relax just like he’d promised Lillian that he would, but now he needed to talk to her. He headed downstairs, looking around for her. “Lil?” Lil had found a good book and was curled up on the couch reading while Steven rested. She heard his voice and smiled, “Did you have a good rest, love?” She looked over at him and her smile falters when she saw his worried expression, “Steven? What’s wrong?” He walked over and sat down next to her, picking at a spot on his pajama pants. “I’ve been talking to Maryanne and she brought up some really good points.” He cleared his throat. He was afraid she’d be angry about him talking to his friend. She smiled at the mention of Maryanne, “Oh, how is Maryanne?” She frowned, her brows furrowed, “What were you talking to her about?” She wasn’t sure what he was talking about yet. She waited for him to elaborate. “She’s good.” He nodded, clearing his throat again. “I was telling her about....well....us.” He bit his lip, keeping his eyes down. “That’s good to hear” She smiled, but her smile faltered and a blush tinted her cheeks, “You told her about what we did? Oh my god” She was so embarrassed and covered her face with the book. “Please don’t be embarrassed.” He sighed, reaching over to take her hands from her face. “She’s a really good friend and she’s not going to go blabbing it all over the island.” He bit his lip. “And she brought up some good points.” She let him pull her book away from her face and looked over at him, “I know that...Maryanne is a good person” She looked over at him curious now, “What good points, Steven?” He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “We weren’t exactly....safe.” He made a face. She is confused at first but then it’s like a lightbulb comes on, “Oh...well I guess it’s...I mean I went and saw Marta today. She gave me the full check up” “But you wouldn’t be able to know already, would you? I mean...it just happened yesterday.” He bit his lip, not sure what “the full check up” meant. “Know what?” She saved her spot in the book and set it to the side, “Oh, if I was pregnant? No, I wouldn’t be able to tell right now.” She reached over and rubbed his arm, ‘I just got the full woman check up they give now. It was...really an experience.” “So there’s still a chance you could be, though.” It was said more than asked. He cleared his throat. “Would you.....I mean....if there was a way to keep it from happening now, would you want to?” He wasn’t sure exactly how to broach the subject. “I guess, I don’t think we’ll be able to tell anytime soon” She watched him closely and frowned, “Steven Rogers, are you asking me if I would stop myself from getting pregnant?” She would never even think of doing something like that. “I’m just asking. Okay? It’s a valid question.” He scratched the back of his neck. “But if you want to risk it, that’s your decision. It’s your body. I’m not going to make you do anything.” He looked down. “I love you, no matter what, okay? If you do get pregnant then....you get pregnant and we’ll handle it.” He nodded. “I guess it’s a valid question” One she hadn’t thought about, “Risk it? D..Do you not want me to get pregnant, Steven?” She looked down at her hands in her lap feeling confused, “I love you too. H..Handle it?” She looked up at him, “Handle it...” She sighed and shook her head, “We don’t even know if I’m pregnant. We could be getting worked up over nothing.” He sighed and scratched the back of his neck. “It’s not that I don’t want you to get pregnant at all. Just....maybe not right now? We’re not ready to have a kid yet, Lil. And we have to seriously consider the possibility that we could be.” He bit his lip. “Handle it was the wrong wording. I’m making it sound like some disease or something when that’s not the case at all.” He sighed. “I love you.” He took her hand, lacing their fingers together. “If..you are pregnant then, well....how could I not love the kid?” He smiled. She started to bite her nails, something she hadn't done in a while, “i know, we aren’t ready for a kid. We have so much that we have to work through before then. We aren’t even married and...” She nodded, “I’ll call and make another appointment with Marta.” She looked deep in thought, not upset or angry, just like she was over thinking things, “I love you too Steven” She squeezed his finger and looked over at him, “Yeah” She smiled, “We’ll figure it out.” He kissed her softly on the lips. “I’m sorry if I got you worried over nothing. It’s stupid, really. I mean, what are the odds of you actually getting pregnant, right?” He cleared his throat. “But...I think that either you should go on some kind of birth control or we should stock up on condoms before we do anything else.” He blushed a little. She kissed him back and squeezed his hand, “It’s okay, love. You are right to be worried about it” She shrugged, “I don't really know odds, but I’m sure we have nothing to worry about.” She laughed a little to lighten the mood, “I am going to talk to Marta about a birth control” She blushed, “i think it’s safe to say that the latter would be a waste of time. We didn’t really stop to think...” “Yeah.” He blushed, smiling. “It was...really nice, though.” He squeezed her hand. “It was...” She squeezed his hand and blushed down at her lap, “One of the best moments of my life” He kissed her cheek softly, smiling at her. “I love you. No matter what.” He squeezed her hand. |
