Steven hadn't really talked about what was bothering him when he'd gone by the bakery to get some cookies to take home the other night. He wanted to keep it to himself and just think about it for a while. But now, once again, he found himself needing some advice. So he got up and got dressed in just a t-shirt and some of the jeans he'd managed to find and headed to the bakery. He wanted something sweet for breakfast and didn't trust himself to try to cook. And, of course, he'd take home something for Lillian as well. He would never go home empty handed again, even if it was something as simple as picking a couple of flowers in the park before taking them home. Any time he thought about her, he'd get her something. That's what he thought he was supposed to do. Let her know he thinks of her with little gifts here and there. He walked into the bakery and took a deep breath through his nose, smiling. The smells kind of reminded him of his mom, back when she was still healthy. And those were happy memories. He walked over and looked at the display case, trying to decide what it was he had a taste for that morning. |
