There was something about her; something that went far beyond any comparison to Tatia despite the obvious physical similarities. She was beautiful like her ancestor, but that would have been a given. No, Elena Gilbert was something else entirely. She was not cold or calculated and what she did, she did for love and caring. Every move was to protect the people she loved in her life and for that, Elijah respected the teenager. She knew far more than her youth than should have been allowed for someone so young, but then again, she was no stranger to loss and death either. These lessons often strengthened the love and loyalty to those still around. She was like him. She didn't want to be a monster, but if it came to her family and those she loved, something quite wicked came this way. He had seen it when she stabbed herself in the gut to protect those she cared for most. He had also seen it when she willingly sacrificed herself to Klaus to protect those she loved and took the risk of pulling out the dagger to speak with him again and oddly enough, make a deal to save those she loved.
Though Elijah had kidnapped her to save his family and threatened her life, he had never wanted Elena Gilbert to die. Most certainly, he had never wanted her to become a vampire, but it seemed fate and his impulsive, reckless sister had other plans. When the blond stepped in front of that truck, she changed everything. She took a life out of rage and anger-it was their fault Niklaus was dead. In her mind, it was a life for a life, but Elijah would have never allowed her to do it if he had known, but he hadn't and he regretted not stopping her to this day. The regret was so very strong, so poignant that he found himself back in Mystic Falls, watching from afar as the twat brothers fought over what was a better way to teach the newly born vampire. Idiots. They were so wrapped up in their jealousy that they refused to think of what was best for the young girl. Hence, upon learning of her illness with animal blood and Damon's blood, he decided to offer his assistance immediately. Now, he lingered outside her door, awaiting her to answer his insistent, but ever polite knock.
This place was strange, but despite the change of scenery and the amount of Mystic Falls residents cropping up, he kept his attention on the reason he had resurfaced in the town in the first place: Elena Gilbert. Her pleas to him on the network were enough to move a man's cold, dead heart to beat again-if such a thing were possible. Even after thousands of years, he could not stop himself from wanting to help a woman in trouble...especially, it seemed, one bearing Tatia's face. He possessed a weakness for such women, but Elena was different. She always had been.
