Alex gave him a pointed look, snagging the tape she began to tape the veggies to his hand. "Keep that on until it doesn't hurt anymore." She knew about these things from having to tend to brothers that liked to act out when things went bad. "Or until it melts, whichever comes first, if it melts swap it for more frozen veggies. And put these back in the freezer."
She frowned a bit as he told her what was eating him. "You know if you left it would devastate a lot of people here. Your sister, and your girl just to name two. Because you've been here long enough to know people don't leave here easily. So, it's best to figure out a way to enjoy the little things that make you happy, even when the big things go wrong. Making a list of the little things that are good, and reading it when you're feeling down might help a bit." Looking up from the peas to his face. Alex wasn't a short woman, but with the thickness of her boots she was only a few inches shy of his height.
"My baby brother had a real hard time with it when our mum left. But that's what I made him do, and he would add something new to that list everyday. And I know you will to. Until those big things that go wrong, don't seem so big anymore." If she could cry she knew that her eyes would be wet. So she counted her stars that she couldn't. Because God knew she missed her brothers.
