Peggy didn’t flinch when he grabbed her but as his grip tightened, she couldn’t help but gasp. She knew he was strong but that had caught her off guard. “Steve, please, it’s alright. It’s alright.” She tried to resist the urge to rub her wrist, “Please.” She didn’t step too close for fear of making him run out the door where it was pitch black. She had to think, “Please sit down, it’ll be alright, I promise.” Her heart was pounding in her ears. She’d never been scared of him, despite his own fears, but even she couldn’t help but wonder how that could have been worse.
