“It was my pleasure, Tony.” She smiled a little, grabbing a towel from her bag to wipe off herself and the treadmill’s arms. Peggy draped the towel over her shoulder and was suddenly conscious of her mostly naked flesh, not being accustomed to the clothes yet. “I think it was about time people were a little more honest around here.” She shook her head.
“I know you would.” She whispered, “And I’d have done the same as you. And if we’d have died… I don’t know how…” she swallowed. “He has such a darkness in him. Who’ll be there for him when I die? He’ll outlive me by years and it doesn’t matter to me but I don’t want him to be alone.”
