Steve watched the baby take the bear, tuck it up under him and then curl up against his chest, ready to go back to sleep. And with the baby on his chest and Peggy against his side he knew he should have been happy, this was the sort of thing he'd always wished for. But the way it was now, all he could feel was guilt and hurt. Even if she denied it he knew it had to hurt Peggy, and it hurt him too, because if this little boy existed in some world it meant that maybe he hadn't stayed here, that he'd end up back in some other world. But he couldn't imagine it, ever being able to have a baby with anyone other than Peggy. He closed his eyes and let his head rest against hers, breathing in the familiar scent of her hair with long, shaky breaths, trying to make himself okay again.
