"Not gone, darling." Peggy whispered to him but she couldnt deny how much death there was in the world around them at the moment and she knew there had been some for him before too. Her heart broke and though part of her knew there was more to the story, all she could think about was how he needed her right then. Peggy hugged him tighter and let him talk out what he could. "Not your fault. You know that, Steve. It's not your fault." She cupped her hand around his jaw and looked directly into his eyes. "Talk to me. Whatever you think you are, or what you think your duty is, it is not worth your life like this."
