Help was always one thing Nina was never short on and their home was never a quiet place. It had it's ups and downs, but for the most part it was a good environment to be in, and thus far aside from the strange and right now irritating Island tricks it was a good place to raise children. She had chosen to find a spare bed, whilst George was tethered to a young woman she had previous never met. There was also, as best she could gauge something else going on amongst the household, though she had no complete clue what it might actually be. It was not unfamiliar, the feeling that something was being kept from her – from George too. More so that Mitchell was at the centre of it, whatever it was. As a whole her trust in Mitchell was never a solid force, the strange fog creeping into the household in his wake was currently causing it to wain. However, there was one thing that Nina refused to allow the Island cloud over – at least in the figurative sense; Eve's first birthday. No, she wouldn't remember it, yes she'd probably enjoy the wrapping paper and boxes more than any gifts she received and perhaps it was too much of an affair for someone who would probably fall asleep, or dissolve into tears before the day was finished, but it was important beyond the superficial. It was important here to mark occasions, to enjoy milestones whilst they were here and not take moments of happiness or celebration for granted. Hopefully, today would be one of those days and there would be years ahead of them for their daughter. There was a cake – which due to Nina actually wanting it to be decent she left in the hands of George and Annie, though she did help decorate it a little. Yes Eve and the other little ones would only be allowed a very small piece – lest they start an Island-wide sugar coma among the youngest of them. Staying well away from the food, Nina instead got Eve ready and sorted the decorations for the day, she was without a tethered stranger, thus childcare was a lot easier for Nina to be mostly responsible for at the moment. Especially with Eve rather more mobile these days. With such beautiful weather generally a constant, an outdoor party was decided on, in the local park. Nina had arrived a little earlier with Eve in the pram, George and his tag-along Melinda would bring the cake and snacks. So decorations had been set up about a gazebo; didn't taken a few minutes – a few balloons, tied to the table, some streamers about the place, and a nice little 'Happy 1st Birthday' banner fastened between two posts. Yes, Nina was quite determined about this happening, of course George had been too. There wasn't so much a set schedule or time for the event, it was all very relaxed. Eve was merrily babbling away in her mother's arms – when encouraged she could make out a very much audible ..nearly words. Maybe more spit than words. “Now darling, we did get you this dress especially for today. Your dad and I will be ..well, let's face it- highly offended if you don't absolutely cover it in cake.” She murmured in her daughter's ear playfully, kissing her soft blonde hair fondly. |
